HTML-coded character set
The following table lists details of the HTML
document character set. This coded character set is based on
ISO-8859-1.
Avoid characters like ", &, < and > because they have meaning to the browser. Instead, use the proper HTML codes or the alternate codes ", &, < and >.
Be aware that the other alternate codes are not always correctly interpreted by each browser, especially not by older versions.
Even less browsers support the HTML-4 extended codes which contain references for symbols, mathematical symbols, and Greek letters, as well as for markup-significant and internationalization characters.
